"On top of the world is beautiful, but there's no place to fall." I listened to Christina Aguilera singing as I was driving back from the university, and I was nodding my head while singing along with those words, because for me they were very true.
But as I reached home I realized that maybe they're not so true.
When you're on top of the world, there a huge magnificent space around you that is waiting for you to fall. Every inch of air is craving to enjoy the resistance of it against you as you lose your balance and fall. And the bottom of the world with its smirk is watching you, pretending to be ready to hold you, when in fact it's digging deeper in the ground to see you fall even lower than most other people would.
On top of the world is beautiful, but it is not as populated as the bottom. And if you fall, no one would notice until you're near the bottom, no one could feel it because the distance between you and them is so long that it takes a while for them to figure it out. It feels like that seconds difference between the lightening and the thunder. People would only get what you're going through later, or maybe even never.
On top of the world is beautiful, but despite it all, you need the support, you need the motivation and most of all you need to keep your strength no matter what happens.
But, as the Five For Fighting song goes: "Even heroes have the right to bleed." Moments of weakness would strike you out of no where; you're on top of the world, you're a hero, and if you bleed, the drops should not fall down, you do not want to disturb the bottom of the world, you do not want them to build a grave for you instead of a simple hole.
On top of the world is beautiful. Enjoy it while it lasts, pray for the best, and forget about the rest; nothing's worth it.
