Mirror

I saw you once, standing beside me in front of a foggy mirror.
I could not see your face, I could not see you. All I saw was your foggy figure.
I reached out my hand to clean that mirror, to be able to see your features.
As I did, the fog intensified, resisting my hands' desperate attempts to reveal your reflection in the mirror..
My curiosity intensified as well; my desperation increased from those failing attempts..

I sighed. I walked away.

I distracted myself by counting the steps I took away from you.
And on my 701st step, I realized: Why didn't I try to see you next to me? Why did I insist on seeing your reflection instead of the actual you?
Why did I only notice that after 700 steps?
